Project Description

Named after Hélène de Pourtalès, one of the first female athletes to compete in the Olympics, back in 1900, this project is all about participation and representation in sports research. Specifically, menstruation, or the absence of menstruation, and its physical and psychological impact on training, and competition. How can we understand this impact considering diverse menstrual experiences? We aim to translate this understanding into metrics that can inform the holistic design of training technologies that encompass menstruation, often disregarded.

Which data is required?

Daily Heart Rate, Physical Activity, Daily Sleep.

How will the data be used?

We will use data as a starting point, to look back, reflect on how menstruation, or the absence of menstruation, impacts physical activity and performance on a case-by-case basis, identify relevant factors, and devise specific metrics in collaboration with our donors.

How to donate?

We accept donations from athletes who use a Garmin Fitness Tracker or Apple Watch to track their physical activity. Detailed instructions on how to obtain a copy of your data for each device can be found at the link below.
